ANAS IN NIGERIA!!!!

The way corruption has eaten deep into the Nigerian society is not surprising to me anymore.

Every Nigerian sector is assumed to be corrupt which I want to agree with. The rumours of Nigerian coaches collecting bribes to have players in their teams has been on forever without proof though. At this point, I have to question the integrity of the Nigerian coaches (argue with your keypad if you disagree).

Salisu Yusuf is a former U-20 player for Nigeria who rose to become the coach of Kano Pillars where he won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title, and also won the domestic cup in 2013 with Enyimba Football club of Aba. In 2016, he was appointed Chief Coach of the Super Eagles and is expected to lead the Nigerian U-23 side to the Olympics in 2020 (if he still has his job then though). He has also worked with the big guns as the assistant coach of the Super Eagles under the likes of Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh and Samson Siasia and is currently working with Gernot Rohr, the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.

Sometime in June, an undercover journalist group called Anas released a video that crumbled the President Of Ghanaian FA, Kwesi Nyanthaki and has decided to do same to Salisu Yusuf. A video was released by the BBC African Eye report in the early hours of today and Salisu was seen collecting the sum of $1000 (N360,120.00) from some undercover journalists who pretended to be football agents. This money was allegedly to influence the decision of the players he was going to select for the CHAN competition that held in Morocco early this year.

Salisu Yusuf was questioned by the BBC where he confirmed collecting the sum of $750 but insisted that the money was just a gift and not a bribe. At this point, I asked myself a few questions:
  • What does the NFF and FIFA say about collection of cash from a third party?
  • Knowing fully well that they were football agents, why did he go ahead to collect the cash?
  • Was he getting married or what; why the gift?
  • Why did he have the conversation of percentage with the agents?
  • Why the statement THEY WILL BE IN CHAN?
As an official who knows the rules, why recieve the cash gift knowing the people he is dealing with at that point. As an official, he isn't suppose to have discussions related to his players with agents. Ignorance is not an excuse in law.

There are two sides to this story as some people believe this won't have any effect on the NFF if Salisu doesn't get sacked or asked to resign as soon as possible but others believe there will be. Reason for the first side is the Nigerian nature, which means in two months, we will forget whatever happened and move on to other matters. Others believe if Salisu doesn't get sacked then there will be a stain on the NFF and the body’s integrity will be questioned.

I got really irritated when I heard people saying he shouldn't be blamed, and they asked why is the NFF owing him?.. and I go like sho ro ni yen ni? (na talk be this one)

Nigerian sports need to washed clean.. it needs total cleansing and I believe that not until we get it right in Nigerian as a whole, there will be no way forward.

Thanks for reading this one, more to come.
Without you there is not Moladetoki blog. Bless up fam. I love you all

  1. oh well, there are always two sides to a coin. the Nigerian football scene isn't lucrative right now, hence his alleged collecting of "bribe". Not doubt it is wrong, as many people will and have followed him.

  2. It's a damning indictment on our society. Corruption has eaten so deep into every fabric of our national life, to such extent as glorifying the acts. It's well with my country
